Hello and welcome to my blog, Beyond Data. My name is Vasuki Kasturi and I consult on Master Data Management & Data Quality. I have had the opportunity to work on EDM programs for several fortune 500 companies, in Financial Services, Healthcare, Life Sciences and High Tech/Manufacturing. Beyond Data is however not about the theory of EDM, nor is an addendum to any book. It is my effort to provide some practical insight into the different disciplines of EDM, based on first-hand experience. I intend to use my blog to provide ideas/opinions on EDM solutions, tools, challenges and best practices. If you are organization is dealing with mountains of data and wondering how to effectively manage data growth, this blog is for you. Obviously the blog will only be as useful as the interations it has with its community. So feel free to chip with your comments, both positive and negative, and let us all stand educated.
Here is a plug on myself. I am currently consulting in the Silicon valley for a high tech/manufacturing company, helping them on Data Quality & Governance. I have a well rounded experience and have successfully meshed sound management techniques and best engineering practices to achieve tangible project outcomes. And the way I have done it is with my 3-prong approach:
- Hire the best people, and get out of their way. They will do wonders for you.
- Stay on the upside of innovation – Technology or breakthrough products/services.
- Define processes that leverage the above two, to your advantage.

Beyond Data is a personal blog site that at times may sound very opinionated, and at times tactical. As mentioned, the blog is based on my first hand experience dealing with data challenges. As they say Data Quality is all about “fit for use”, my advice/recommendations are also about “fit for use”. There is no one stop solution for all organizations. While the underlying theme is the same, how each organization deals with it will be different. Anything original on this site, however unlikely that may sound is licensed under the terms of CCL.
