With the onset of the new year, I decided to make some changes to my professional life as well. After a year of travelling coast to coast, and having raked up about 500k miles, a change had to be made that sat well with my family and my body.
I decided to quit Cignex and the open source world, and join WAMU. I will be working at their credit card business center, responsible for the delivery of their data marts. It is interesting in more than one way to me:
- The past 3 years I been working as a consultant, trying to define a road map for my clients. Establishing trust meant everything to me, as a consultant. So the style of communication was geared towards building the trust with my client. In my new job, I am on the other side of the table. I would be the client, and it is my responsibility to ensure that these external consultants deliver.
- The financial services has remained hot for quite sometime, and this would be my entry into this vertical. This industry experience, along with my healthcare and life-sciences experience, will most definitely enhance my value.
- The role is more managerial, and less technical. From what I know of myself, and from what I have heard, that defines me.
- Finally being a non-travelling job, I am so excited to be with my family. In a way, I feel that it is my responsibility as a father, that I be there for my daughter as she crosses into her teen years.
Besides being interesting, these are all new to me. That is my opportunity, my challenge. I am so excited to start tom’row - all fresh from a 2week chill-off period.
